now a real post about yesterday's hay...

Yesterday was about as perfect as a baling day can be.  The weather held. All of the help showed up on time and worked hard. There was enough help. The one thing that broke was non-critical and easily repaired. That being the pole that controls the thrust of the bale kicker. I've fixed it several times already, so I just ordered a new one this time. The bale knotter didn't miss a trick, which is quite impressive over 312 bales, let alone the first run of the season.  I didn't actually work all that hard.  In the morning I prepped the baler and tedded the hay one last time, and then raked it after lunch, but [profile] chocorua ran the baler.  I stacked about 2/3 of one wagon, but [personal profile] desiringsubject and her friend Caroline (for whom I was told an LJ name, but...) did most of the bale catching. Having enough help to rotate wagon-riders is really good. I don't like melting people.  I drove wagons to and from the cow shed while the wagon-riders, Alice, my brother, and one of our tenants did the unloading and stacking.  The 312 bale yield is the most we've ever gotten off that section.  The worst  thing I have to say about the day is that it also happened to be the heaviest day of my period, except that of all the things I could be doing, driving tractors is probably the best thing for my back under that circumstance. It's too bouncy for  my muscles to think about cramping, and what could possibly be wrong with a 35 horsepower vibrator?  We finished the day with really yummy Chinese food only to come home to find 2 traumatized hens and the third one missing...  sigh.

All you need now is a "special seat" for said tractor :)

Or, as the head nun said to the gaggle of nuns riding their bicycles behind her on a field trip, "Please stop giggling so much, or I'll put the seats back on".
