Morning Wonders

1.My outdoor thermometer read -18C (that's 0F) when I got up at 6 to stoke the furnace. Wind chill makes that feel a whole lot colder. OK, we mostly have winter now... how about ~10 cm of snow?
The furnace has last been stoked at 9:30PM. At 6am there was a smallish pile of hot coals and the boiler temp was down to 150F from it's normal run temp of 180. It was COLD last night. The furnace is all happy and toasty now.
2.Of course, all the pony water was frozen. I was lucky though, they had drunk most of it, so I was able to put in fresh over the ice in the bottom of the buckets. AND my back didn't hurt at all with the full buckets. YAY. I must say, it's really cool to see the 45F water coming out of the pipe *steaming* because the air is so dry and cold that it just does that.
3.Since I wanted to go to the gym anyway, I drove Alice to school. So we got into my Insight but when I tried to start it the poor engine was too cold and would not fire. :-( My 12 year old truck, however, which was sitting right next to it in the driveway started right up despite the extra 5 cyliners in the engine :-)
4. Exercise Log - Yes, I did get into the pool this morning. Breast stroke did not hurt my back/shoulder. I felt a good stretch in the crawl. 25 minutes with a 2 lap crawl, one lap breast stroke pattern. No inhaler needed. Happy me!

Yes, it's finally really winter. And cold enough that I did feel cold being outside. Doesn't happen often (at least, not to me). I really really want to get that wood-burning stove in our livingroom (one of our longer term projects). Not just because it'll look really cool, but because we can actually heat up the downstairs!
And "me too!", I want snow. Dammit.

Last night was definitely cold. It's the first time this season I had to put on extra layers just so I could fall asleep.

Brr
Our frost ( 1st frost in years) seems to have come to visit you.

No back pain! Yay!

*sigh*

It got below freezing here maybe only a few days in December. I'm used to it being between 5 and 11 degrees C outside.

Guess I'd better pack the flannel-lined jeans.
