Ask Dr. LJ - slightly technical

I am using gmail for more and more of my email.  I want to save/archive/sort some of that mail in a place that is not gmail/internet dependent. Does anyone know if/how this is possible?

EDIT: thanks for the suggestions. I have it figured out now.

It is. Some, well, googling of 'archive gmail account' should find info. Sorry, I've got to head out in a moment and won't be on line today to give more help.

did that. it archives within gmail, not to remote.

is old, but the concept is valid, and then there's what Tigerbright noted below. :)

Hhhmmm ... I don't know if it is inside of GMail. I download my gmail to Thunderbird (Mozilla's Outlook replacement) and archive it that way ... dunno if that helps ...

Just enable POP and download directly to Thunderbird:

Yes, that does help, because I know how to archive off thunderbird, thanks
