if the market won't sell it...

build it....  [profile] chocorua (my hero) with the roasting pan he just made that matches the interior dimensions of our gas oven. So if the turkey will fit in the oven at all, I have a pan to put under it. Yes, the 38 lb turkey *does* fit in the oven.

Our turkey *does* fit in our roasting pan, but not covered. And I'll admit that certain parts might be lolling over the edges a wee bit. Maybe Drumstick tin foil packs on the hibachi outside??

I used a slightly too small pan the last time, and applied foil from inside the pan up over the edges and made a tin-foil "lid." The beastie cooked beautifully.

Please tell me 38 pounds is the *pre* slaughter weight???? Ours post slaughter was 26 pound and that was just *huge*!

And does your friend take orders? :D We didn't have a pan big enough so we had to do the tinfoil/small pan trick ...

38 lbs is the dressed weight. They were well over 50 lbs live. As far as pans go, he can make more, but there would need to be an appropriate bribe.

I had opportunity to meet the turkeys before they were slaughtered, and can testify that they were fooking HUGE!

Which of course, leads to the question of how many weeks you'll be eating leftover turkey breakfast, lunch and dinner now...

Dam you..

That is so awesome. I am jealous of the metalworking capabilities ( EJ promises we'll have a garage soon..)
Do you have a sheet metal brake? How are the corners done?
I hope he signed it somewhere.
