fun day at the Boston Folk Festival

Saw some artists I already know I like, and now I like them even more: Eliza Gylkison, Kathy Mattea, John Gorka, Cliff Eberhardt. Saw David Buskin and Robin Batteau whom I now know I've heard on the radio, but man, they are good. Saw the Jason Spooner Trio whom I'd never heard of before, but I like what I heard. Fun day with James despite the soaking we got just as we got there.

I'm jealous- you folks in the northeast don't know how lucky you are to have so many good folk musicians living and working in the area...

Some of today's came from pretty far - Eliza is from New Mexico, Kathy Mattea is based in W. Virginia, and one I didn't mention above, Henry Butler, is from New Orleans. but yea, I've heard that Boston is good for folk.

Huh, I don't know any of those.

Which would you most recommend?

e-gads. I like all of them. Eliza is perhaps the post political and I have a bunch of her cd's. If I were buying *more* music right now, I'd probably pick up Buskin and Batteau next.

I didn't expect to hear a cover of Gimmie Shelter (or at least one I liked a lot) from Kathy Mattea, who was famous in country before (it appears) she crossed that political line that gets you run out of Nashville...
