Book Review

Last weekend a very thoughtful person loaned me "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work" by John Gottman.  Thank you very much to both the thoughtful person and the others in the situation in which it was loaned.  You know who you are. :-)

I am not done reading it yet, but very thrilled with the well researched ideas (yes, really!) and the insights it is giving me.  Things are certainly not so dire as i had previously thought.

I'm glad to hear that! Dire is bad.

I'm glad things are looking up. :)

Gottman also wrote Why Marriages Succeed or Fail, which my husband really enjoyed and I haven't read yet. Two related books that we've gotten a lot out of are Passionate Marriage by Dr. Schnarch and How Can I Forgive You (the courage to forgive, the freedom not to) by Dr. Spring. If books tend to help, these are very good ones.

But this is also my way of saying, yay, I'm glad things are looking up! ;)

Gottman's work is referenced in Blink. Much of his analysis is based on the work of Dr Paul Eckman on facial expressions. I haven't read his books but I have done his computer training on micro-expression recognition. Some of his books might be something else to look at, as a companion.

Sorry, Dr Paul Ekman.

When I said in the poll that you should dance to your own music, I didn't mean leaving your marriage necessarily. It seems best for everybody to be able to dance to there own music.
