BEEF!

The 3 steer are going to the butcher on 8/17. As of the records that I can find [personal profile] candle_light and [personal profile] desiringsubject have each requested 1/2 steer.  Which leave a whole steer un-sold as yet, given that I'm keeping one. Unless there I'm missing someone.  Comments or email are welcome....

EDIT: people whose names 'fell off' the list have told me, and the steers are all sold now. yay.

If you're looking for buyers, I was certainly interested and will commit to a half.

Can't take a 1/2 steer because we only have a regular fridge and there's only 2 of us. But I'd be interested in a couple pounds of cuts for grilling as well as some ground chuck.

I used to sell cuts, but the cost was so high as to be prohibitive to many people, and it wasn't entirely legal. Since I have no trouble selling them by the 1/2... You might want to talk to some of the people who are buying 1/2's and see if they are willing to share.

Not a bad idea and I can see how the cost would become an issue. I'll give a buzz to some of the folk who are already supposed to get steer from you and see if I can buy some of their share.

Question for future reference: If I could find a shochet (someone who makes sure slaughter happens in a kosher way to kosher animals), and paid them myself, would it be possible to do that with one of your steer, and pay you for the animal? I am interested in having eco-raised beef, but only if it works for the kosherness of our kitchen.

the butcher I use will do kosher for and extra fee. As for the kosherness of my beef before I gets to the butcher, I have no idea. As of right now, though, I'm pretty sure that the 2008 beef (yes next year's) is already sold. And I won't know how much I have for 2009 until spring of 2008.

Really? That surprises me, but would be incredibly awesome. Would it be possible for you to send me your butcher's contact info, so I can make sure that his/her version of kosher is compatible with mine? If it is, I could become a really, really grateful customer of yours. (Yeah, even if we're talking 2009. This is a big deal to me.)

I belive we missed this installment of "beef, please". But just to make sure; we are in for a 1/2 pig this fall, correct?

yup. have 1/2 pig for you.
