Horse shopping 7, 8 & 9
Sep. 10th, 2007 07:31 pmI drove a very long way today.. to look at this horse. The owner/trainer also had two other horses for me to look at.
#7: Didas. 6 years old. 16.1 hands. chestnut. gelding. Awesome bone and feet. Quiet and friendly disposition. I rode him almost as well as his owner. He's got a natural eye for a jump. He's got big gaits, but not too bouncy for me. The only drawback is his lack of eventing experience. But I want to take
chocorua for a test ride and jump him some more.
#8 Basil: Basil is a half-brother to Didas. 5 years old, about the same size. He is very easy to ride and has lovely gaits. His dressage training is a little further along than Didas because he has a much softer mouth, lower set neck and is more cooperative. He carries himself effortlessly. Jumping, however, is another matter. This horse would make it as a show hunter with a little training, but never a jumper, and probably not an event horse. He is lazy and has no eye for when to take off. Even though when gotten to the jump correctly he has good form.
#9 the 3-year-old. Oooooh. If I thought the first two moved nicely, this one puts them to shame. Again, a half-brother to the others. He's not what I am looking for because I don't want to take a chance on one so young and un-jumped. But sweet, quiet, and easy. Yes, I did ride this one too. The owner was very complimentary of my riding. ::preens::
