Risk assessment
Apr. 8th, 2009 10:22 amHere are the detailed options on the Health Insurance plans under consideration.
Here are the options under consideration:
1) stay with current plan - $1853/mo, copays for o/v $300 ded, 20%coinsurance to $2000 each. Total out of pocket/yr $6900 (not counting co-pays and meds) + $22,236. /yr in premiums = $29,136/yr +copays for o/v and meds
2) split plan a. James and Alice cost $531/mo copays for o/v and meds $5000 ded then 25% coinsurance up to $7500 max out of pocket per person. Annual max = $6372/yr premiums + $15,000 out of pocket = $21,372 + copays and meds
plus b. Jocelyn NH plan $289/mo $2500 deductible then 20% up to $5000. Meds partially covered. Annual premium $3468 + out of pocket max = $8468 + meds
total for option 2 = $29,840
3) All on NH plan $937/mo ($11244/year) + $15000 max out of pocket + meds = $26,244 + meds
The numbers listed above are all worst-case.
Best case per year, assuming ONE annual physical for each of us at $500 (I am taking a weighted average estimate considering that I need an annual mammogram) I am not including my meds, which are the same cost under all plans.
1) $22,236 + 120 for o/v (1 each for James and Alice, 2 for me because of the mammo) = $22,356
2) a. $6372 + 60 + 1000 (coinsurance) = $7432
b. $3468 + 500 = $3968
plan total = $11,400
3) $11244 + 1500 (toward deductible for preventative care) = $12,744
I am making the assumption that all options are going to be a PITA, since option 1 is a known quantity in that department.
Comments anyone?
EDIT (11:50 AM) - I found a dyslexic typo in one of the numbers, and re-did the math for option 3.
