some days it's easy to do the right thing
Dec. 9th, 2009 08:41 amLooking at the plow bank at the end of our driveway, I decided to use the truck to take Alice to school. It enabled a learning experience in a discussion of how driving a rear wheel drive truck in snow differed from a front wheel drive car. We also discussed the concept of locking the rear axle so the drive tires spun together (they are normally independent) as a form of traction control. After I dropped her off, another parent (I assume, given that the car had just disgorged a student also) ahead of me on the road failed to climb the slippery hill. I could have gone around, but that would have been risky to everyone, so I put on my hazard lights and got out to give her a push. As soon as I offered to help, someone else came up to help push too. It's a one way street, and no one should have been going anywhere until this car moved. So we got her on her way, and as we were walking back to our respective vehicles, a black truck, bigger than mine, drove past and even thought about passing the car we had just rescued, who was pretty much using the whole road to keep going. I suspect fate will catch up with that pinhead sooner rather than later. I needed the 4wd today, glad I have it, like the new truck.
