comparative exercise
Aug. 4th, 2010 09:37 amMy perception is that galloping the horse is much more demanding of cardio fitness than riding a bicycle. The bicycle is harder for going up long and/or steep hills, but the horse takes just as much work to go up as to go down or on the level. This explains why my legs didn't hurt after biking 16 miles. But after a 30 min ride, which included a total of 5 minutes fast gallop in the form of 2 x 2 min sprints, a 1 min sprint and some warm-up my legs feel it a little. However, my recovery time for pulse and respiration rates is really awesome. I think at this point I'm more fit than my horse. Which means I need to do more interval gallops. That will be fun.
