Topic: how clothing makes us feel. I was hanging laundry out on the line this morning and contemplating my over-alls. I feel sexy when I'm wearing my over-alls. When I put on some clothing that society, or even my social circle, would call 'sexy', I just feel fat, and not sexy at all. When I put on my riding clothes, i stand straighter, and have more self-confidence.

So what do different types of clothing do to you?

Ben thinks overalls on a woman are very sexy :) I tend to agree with him on that.

Sexy for me is things that *say* sexy. Corsets obviously, swirly skirts, blouses that allow a little bit of cleavage to show. High heels (though I avoid them.) Tight clothes == not sexy. (Ben and I argue over this. I say sexy clothes must be comfortable and easy to wear...)

Riding clothes are not sexy at all IMO just because every little bulge shows...

I love being naked -- I feel sexiest when I am free. I never feel free when I am wearing clothes.

I do have a pair of pajama-like "Life is Good" pants that make me feel close to free, and thus a little sexy.

Heavy wool socks make me feel cozy and safe.

Pants without useful pockets make me feel marginalized.

Boots with heels make me feel confident, as long as they don't screw with my balance. But I quickly get annoyed if they are uncomfortable on my feet.

Restrictive clothing makes me feel dehumanized.

Heavy footwear or shoes with thick souls make me feel loud and clumsy.

Synthetic officewear makes me feel like I'm only wearing a costume to make it look like I'm wearing clothes.

Wool pants with synthetic lining make me feel homocidal.

Hats make me feel fully attired.

Linen makes me feel well-dressed.

Silk satin makes me feel like the sexiest thing ever.

Corsets definitely make me feel sexy -- and also very ladylike, and able to enforce my personal bubble, which, sadly, I need to do while wearing them, because dudes who DON'T see women in corsets all the time seem to find them an irresistible temptation. Yes, I know that waist-hip curve is enticing. It's supposed to be. Look all you like but don't touch, idiot.

My Doc Martens make me feel competent.

High heels make me feel pretty and grown-up but they're not comfortable for extended walking, ugh.

Shelf-bra cami tops also make me feel sexy, whether or not they give me cleavage.

My leather jacket with all the band buttons makes me feel strong.

My black and white cotton kimono makes me feel sophisticated.

Oddly enough, a bandana or baseball cap on my head makes me feel usefully invisible.

Office clothes make me feel like a poser.

most of what i wear is just body covering (not intended for particular effect on me or others, just intended to cover me so i'm not legally indecent).

however:

business wear makes me feel all stiff and awkward and formal.

sleeveless tops make me feel fat and unsexy (my upper arms suck). ditto shorts, upper legs.

insufficient underwear makes me feel sexy. anything silky against my skin.
ditto showing cleavage, wearing heels, or showing a bit more leg than normal.

corsets and similar structural devices make me feel disciplined and punctilious.
