We have a working HP PSC 500. This is a printer/scanner/copier. We have the original cables and software. Yes, it works. BUT it *requires* a old-style serial port, and hence has obsoleted itself out of our household. Free. Delivery available to Boston area.

Tech support correction: It requires a parallel port (known in the dim past as Centronics-type).

i've had AWESOME luck with Belkin - i have a usb hub that does serial (correctly for macs for gps), as well as printer and something else old and obscure (and useful) (keyboards/mouse i think)...

was a belkin. they were the ONLY mini-centronic to parallel I could get, then put on parallel to usb. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the parallel to usb that was the problem. The issue was somewhere in the mini-centronic to parallel. The unit came with mini-centronic to parallel, which works just fine.

The issue is that the fancy HP printer driver and scanner software knows its printer came with a parallel port, and the USB-to-parallel converters just make the printer look like a USB printer. I could generate text output via the USB converter, but it would have taken much more time than I wanted to spend making images print and other shiny stuff.
