Or what happens when the slip clutch dosen't....

The parts on the deck, along with the bent frame rod.

looking into the gearbox end of the slip-clutch at the snapped shaft:

While I'm a software geek and not a hardware geek, I'm fairly comfortable in saying that this looks like a massive hardware failure.

The only "software" that runs on this mower is grease...

Note regarding scale - the mower deck is 2.2 meters wide, the snapped shaft is is about 40mm, and the bent brace is 25 mm steel rod. It was turning at 540 RPM with 75HP behind it when it hit the rock which she hadn't been able to move herself (say 100+ KG). Nothing hit her (a very good thing) or the vulnerable parts of the tractor (also good), Praise Finagle!

Wow that totally sucks.
Looks like a welding project is in order.

Earlier in the summer ( when the grass was thick thick thick)I learned about the slip clutch; I was working for a friend so I managed not to break his shaft at the time, and I was glad to learn all about the working slip clutch on his mower.

Not welding, new parts. The splined shaft is part of the gearbox, and the drive shaft is an off-the-shelf replacement. The thing is already at the shop since I don't have time for a 'learning experience' right now.
